european billboard gallery project with coordination center in bratislava, came into existence in october 2002 as an initiative of civic association billboart gallery europe. main organizers of the project are richard fajnor from central european institute of contemporary art in brno, juraj carny from gallery space / priestor for contemporary arts in bratislava and mira keratova - general coordinator of the project. on billboart gallery europe project are further participating curators and coordinators from eleven european countries / eva khachatryan / armenia, michal kolecek / czech republic, silva kalcic / croatia, tea paichadze / georgia, dovile tumpyte / lithuania, gabor bakos / hungary, twozywo / poland, klaus schaffler / austria, matei bejenaru / romania, nana radenkovic / serbia & montenegro and olga zhuk / ukraine /.
long - term international project billboart gallery europe focuses on presenting the contemporary fine art in network of public spaces. bge represents very unique initiative in the field of public art in slovakia, and in such a scale also in whole europe. since the project's main concern is not only the uniqueness of media - public space, or establishment of permanent billboard galleries located in exposed areas of the european cities, but also curator networking that it has. imminent goal of the whole project is consequently initiation of international exchange of information and cooperation in the field of art, targeting the most diverse audience.
second annual exhibition of the project /2nd annual exhibition billboart gallery europe/ was opened in bratislava on thursday july 8th 2004. opening took place on pontoon at river danube. 2nd annual exhibition billboart gallery europe ran from july till september 2004 in eleven european cities - belgrade / yu, bratislava / sk, budapest / hu, iasi / romania, prague /cz, tbilisi / geo, warsaw /pl, vienna / a, vilnius / lth, zagreb /cro, yerevan / arm. selection of presented artworks was based on voting procedure of experts - members of international jury. artists all over the world were invited to participate in billboart gallery europe competition and at about 130 artists applied with their proposals. main criterion of selection was communicability of artwork, topicality of its supporting subject, quality of treatment with respect on specifics of billboard medium and particularly artistic qualities of proposal.
